No, it’s not Christmas yet!
But for the fashion world, red and green adds a new whole meaning that is greater than Santa Claus and his “deer” friends. Every season, Funkshion brings some funk to fashion by bringing us the latest of the hottest designers’ collection.
This time, however, Funkshion is not just bringing fashion awareness. Instead, Fashion Week is joining philanthropic and environmental efforts by incorporating them into the shows.
Just like the fashion world, green represented corruption, money, materialism, and greed. Luckily for the color, environmentalists have been able to redefine it by making it their own. For this Fall season, Funkshion has joined forces with Clean Planet Funding to make our world “greener” (and by this I mean making our environment cleaner!).
Their three environmental goals are listed on their website:
(1) to reduce the carbon footprint of this show with the ultimate goal of attaining carbon neutrality for future events
(2) to educate Fashion Week Miami Beach and the world about the social, environmental, and economic benefits of building green
(3) to explain why an integrated and collaborative approach to green building is necessary for a genuinely sustainable and financially sound green project. We applaud this green team for their contributions and efforts! The team will be available in the Clean Planet Lounge, and throughout the show, to discuss sustainability with you.
If green is to environment, then red must be referencing to… cardiovascular disease.
The event initiated Miami’s first ever Red Dress Fashion Show yesterday (Thursday, October 2nd, 2008). All the dresses showcased were (obviously) red and they were all donated by the world’s top fashion designers including Marc Jacobs, DVF, Custo Barcelona, Fisico by Cristina Ferrari, ABS, and many others. This fashion show also raised money for the American Heart Association.
